It’s Dental Hygiene Month! In addition to celebrating the great work of our wonderful team of Dentistry of the Carolinas hygienists, it’s also a good reminder about creating and maintaining good oral health. It’s not just for healthy smiles, but also for a healthier you!
The following is sound advice about dental hygiene from one of our hygienists, Jennifer Cannady, RDH:
“I love to convey to my patients that an unhealthy mouth – especially if you have gum disease – may increase your risk of serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes and preterm labor. The condition of your mouth is closely tied to your overall health. Patients seem surprised to find that out.”
According to the American Dental Association (ADA), following the Daily 4 – Brushing, Flossing, Rinsing and Chewing [sugarless gum] – can help maintain your beautiful smile, a healthy mouth and your overall health. Visit http://www.mouthhealthy.org for more information.
And, if you want to skip flossing one day, don’t. Remember this old saying that Cannady shares with her patients, ‘Just floss the teeth you want to keep.’”
